Tibetan Youth Leadership Program

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) invites Tibetan undergraduate and graduate students in the United States to apply for a unique week-long leadership development program to be held in Washington, DC from June 2 to 8, 2014.

The 2014 Tibetan Youth Leadership Program (TYLP) in Washington, D.C. is designed to motivate and train young Tibetans to become effective leaders within the Tibetan community by providing meaningful exposure to the US political process and the discourse around foreign policy in the American capital. The TYLP aims to develop young leaders who will convert their convictions into activism even as they pursue academic and professional success. Through workshops, discussions and hands-on activities, participants will develop and sharpen their leadership skills. Although the Washington program is specifically geared to meet the need to carry the Tibet movement forward in the United States, the TYLP is a starting point for greater involvement as knowledgeable and responsible actors within the Tibetan community worldwide.

TYLP participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with distinguished professionals working on foreign policy issues in Washington, DC, including in the US Congress and the State Department. Participants will expand their understanding of the role of activists, lobbyists, think-tanks and the media in influencing foreign policy in Washington. Beyond this, the TYLP will provide each participant a rich environment for exchanging information and ideas and building a network of future leaders in the Tibetan community.

The 2014 TYLP is the sixth to be convened in Washington, DC through the generosity of ICT supporters, the cost of travel, meals and accommodations during the training period will be covered by the International Campaign for Tibet.

The International Campaign for Tibet is a not-for-profit advocacy organization working internationally to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the Tibetan people.
