The International Campaign for Tibet’s Chinese Outreach program was created to enhance the Chinese people’s knowledge and understanding of Tibet and to put the spotlight on China on the issues of freedom, democracy and human rights for the Tibetan people. The program builds awareness of Tibetan issues in the Chinese community, particularly among scholars in China and works to serve as a bridge for better understanding between Chinese and Tibetan people.

Xizang Xinwen – January 29, 2015

  • Tsewang, a monk from Drilda Monastery in Kham (present day Sok County, Nagchu Prefecture) was sentenced for 10 years in prison recently. He was arrested in March, 2014 with three other monks from the same monastery for “involving in Tibet independent related activities”.
  • Deceptive Fraud by PAZU Shou Baibai PAZU Shou Baibai, the author, is a Chinese who traveled many times to Tibet. According to the author, these days, there are a number of Chinese who pretend to be Tibetans and deceive Chinese and foreign tourists in Tibet. The author describes how they cheat people.
  • Lobsang Nima is the Chinese liaison officer at Office of Tibet in Switzerland. Nima tells Radio Free Asia about the progress on exchanges and contacts between Chinese and Tibetan people overseas in recent years.
  • A Tibetan language that the Kyegu Monastery in Kham (present day Yushul Prefecture) has been holding for students during their vacation was forced to be closed by Chinese authorities on January 8. The monastery had been organizing such classes for more than 20 years for local Tibetan students during their winter and summer vacations. The abrupt closure forced around 100 students to leave their classes.
  • On January 21st, Tibetan families were evicted from their houses by authorities in Kyegudo, Kham (present day Yulshul Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture), followed official demands for payment and hundreds of police deployed into government-built housing projects.
