A third Tibetan, an 18-year old male named Dorjee, has self-immolated in Tibet’s eastern Ngaba area, according to new information from Tibetan monks resident at Kirti monastery in Dharamsala.

Dorjee set fire to himself today at around 6:30 p.m. local time and walked towards the local government office in Cha (Chinese: Jia) township, Ngaba (Chinese: Aba) county, Ngaba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province. According to the same sources, Kirti monks in contact with Tibetans in the region, Dorjee shouted slogans against the Chinese government’s policies on Tibet. It is believed that he died at the scene, and that authorities took away his body. Dorjee’s body was scarcely visible as the flames around him were so fierce, according to the Kirti monks. “Many people in the streets were reciting mantras and praying to His Holiness the Dalai Lama with tears and grief in their eyes,” one of the monks reported.

Dorjee was from the same group of rural villages as the Tibetan woman, Rinchen, who self-immolated yesterday (March 4) (ICT report, Tibetan student and widowed mother self-immolate in Tibet – 5 March 2012).

Cha township is some 60 kilometers east of the county town and, under the Chinese administrative system, it is one of three pastoral townships in the county, with Ra Ruwa and Naktsangma.
