Tashi Dhondup, a popular Tibetan singer from the eastern Tibetan region of Amdo, was sentenced to 15 months of “re-education through labor” following the October 2009 release of a CD, including the song below, commenting on the political situation in Tibet. He was released on February 8, 2011 after serving most of his sentence. The lyrics draw comparisons between the Chinese government’s repression across the Tibetan plateau after the 2008 protests and the Chinese takeover of Amdo in 1958.
