This excerpt comes from a poem featured in Shardungri (The Eastern Snow Mountain) a Tibetan literary journal from Amdo and the first known collection of writings about the 2008 protests published in Tibet. Following the June 21, 2008 issue, which included essays and poetry critical of the Chinese authorities, Shardungri was banned, and its editor, Tashi Rabten, was detained—first in July 2009 and again in April 2010, after which he has been imprisoned in Chengdu.
For essays and poetry featured in Shardungri as well as commentary on these writings, please see the ICT report Like Gold that Fears no Fire: New writing from Tibet.
