Several people sustained gunshot injuries when police opened fire on a group of protestors in Nyarong (Chinese: Xinlong) county in Kardze (Chinese: Ganzi) prefecture on April 15, 2009. The protestors were reportedly angered at harsh sentences passed against three people who had protested in early March 2009, although details of the people sentenced are not known at present.

Nine people were detained, several of whom were reportedly injured; all nine were identified as Gonpo Tsewang; Yiga; Alo; Drakbe; Dawa Drakpa; Gyashe, Kyaka; Gonbe (who had a bullet wound to his leg); and a woman named Aga.
