Three young girls staged a protest in Kardze (Chinese: Ganzi) county town in Kardze prefecture by throwing leaflets and shouting slogans calling for Tibetan independence and the return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet. Two of the girls were identified as Choetso, 16, and Tsering Wangmo, 17, while the identity of third girl was not known at the time of reporting.

All three were apprehended by police and driven away, according to RFA’s source.

ICT's source said that the level of literacy shown in the writing of the leaflets suggested the girls had attended Kardze County Tibetan Middle School. (INS 090910-2:27.)
