According to TGiE’s sources, a lone monk started shouting slogans in Lithang (Chinese: Litang) county in Kardze (Chinese: Ganzi) prefecture at around 11:00 am. As police tried to detain him, onlookers tried to protect the monk but he was detained nevertheless.

Later that same day, Lobsang Wanchuk, 29, a monk from Bathang (Chinese: Batang) in Kardze prefecture, also staged a protest in Lithang by shouting slogans and throwing leaflets into the air (see: SP 090310ii Lithang).

Both monks were from Lithang monastery.
