The 58th session of the Commission was held from 18 March to 26 April 2002 in Geneva, Switzerland. The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) plays a central role in focusing the world's conscience on human rights violations around the world based on internationally recognized human rights norms. With that in mind, ICT annually attends the annual meeting of the UNCHR in order to interact with representatives of governments from around the world and educate them on the harsh realities inside Tibet.
In the past, ICT has worked closely with the Tibetan Government-in-Exile's UN team to build support and relationships with the delegates of the Commission's members. In addition, ICT Europe has organized major activities to give briefings on the current situation in Tibet.
ICT will continue to speak out against human rights violations in Tibet and work for the passage of a resolution at the UNCHR that condemns the Chinese government's human rights violations there. If you would like to get involved, please speak up on behalf of the people in occupied Tibet, and petition your government to actively support the passage of a resolution at the annual Commission meeting that highlight China's ongoing human rights violations there.
