Take Action In Support of Tibetan Religious Freedom

Please take action in support of the Tibetan people by sending Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a message urging her to make religious freedom a priority in the U.S.- Chinese relationship.

Today, the core of the Tibetan culture - the lamas - are under significant threat from the People's Republic of China.  There is great reason to be concerned for their current and future safety.

Over the last decade, the Chinese government has developed new tools and authorities to clamp down on religion, including prohibitions on lamas who return to Tibet from exile.  Most return because they have concluded a course of training with the Dalai Lama or other religious leaders.  But under Chinese directives, those who return are not allowed to preside over the religious initiations of monks and nuns, nor take part in consecrations, nor interpret texts.

The relationship between the United States and China is of global importance.  As Secretary Clinton and the Obama administration shape and define that relationship, we have the opportunity to bring our values to China and help the Tibetan people.

Please let Secretary Clinton know how critically important it is that she stand up to China in support of religious freedom for the Tibetan people.
